Storytelling

‘EMMA LEE’S JOURNEY’ & ‘THE SNOW QUEEN’ Stories of courage with Elizabeth

The King high on the mountaintop had everything and appreciated nothing.
Emma Lee and her father had nothing but appreciated everything.
From Emma Lees Journey by E. Copeland

From an original story by Elizabeth Copeland we learn about one girl’s conviction to stay true to her  convictions. In Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale, The Snow Queen we join Gerda as she sets out on an  journey fraught with danger. Both characters - Gerda and Emma Lee – model
courage in times of trial.

Ideal ages: Grades 2 through 6
Maximum number of students: 100 students
Time commitment: 60 minutes
Requirements: Open gym or library space.
Participation: Students will sing and engage in dialogue about the choices Gerda and Emma Lee make,  choices that change both their own lives and the lives of those around them for the better.

STORYTIME WITH PHYNIX & ANANSI - A multi-media performance with Glenn

puppet fans

“Storytime with Phynix and Anansi” features a sometimes dramatic and often comedic style of storytelling  combining spoken word with music, visual art and puppetry. Original music and songs accompany  each story. The illustrations of featured books are projected onto a screen to engage the audience.  In some  instances, Glenn has illustrated the stories himself using computer art in a style reminiscent of the great  Canadian folk artist ‘Grandpa Moses’. Anansi, his tiny spider finger puppet companion, who himself is the  West African character known as “keeper of all the stories” can often be coaxed into telling some stories in  his own little voice.  Some of the stories you might hear include Zoom, The Paper Bag Princess and The Epic  of Gilgamesh.

Ideal ages: Grades K - 4
Maximum number of students: 150 - 200
Time commitment: 60 minutes
Requirements: access to gym (or library if large enough) - enough room to set up screen for projection and to accommodate two large speakers.  Glenn needs at least ninety minutes prior to performance for set up and forty-five minutes to tear down.
Participation: Be ready to laugh and sing-a-long!
